About Dr. Campbell

Dr. Campbell received an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of New Hampshire where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and captain of the Track and Field team in 1984. At the New England College of Optometry in Boston Massachusetts, he was president of his class as well as president of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society, earning his doctorate in 1988. He completed a hospital-based residency with emphasis in ocular disease in Baltimore in 1989 prior to entering practice at the Eye Institute of San Antonio. Dr. Campbell then served as president of the Bexar County Optometric Society. In 1999, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Rick Sharp formed Sharp Eye Consultants, P.A. where Dr. Campbell continues to enjoy serving San Antonio’s seniors. He also serves as adjunct clinical faculty for the University of Houston College of Optometry, and the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry where he shares his more than 30 years of experience with future optometric glaucoma specialists.

Dr. Campbell enjoys traveling the world with his wife and daughters and he delights in keeping up with all of their activities. He also has a passion for athletics, winning the 2016 world championship in the pole vault in the 55-59 age group.

About Dr. Campbell

Dr. Julia Campbell is from San Antonio, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2023, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry. In optometry school, she served as class representative and was the president of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She was also inducted into the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society for her excellence in leadership and service. 

In 2024, Dr. Campbell completed an ocular disease hospital-based residency at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL, the nation's premier eye hospital. Following her residency, she served as a staff optometrist in the ocular emergency department at Bascom Palmer for an additional year before returning home to provide eye care to her local community in San Antonio. 

Dr. Campbell is an active member of local and national optometric organizations and was awarded Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in 2025. She was also selected to be a member of the Future Optometric Leader Development Program Class of 2026 through the Texas Optometric Association. She enjoys research and has several publications, including in Review of Optometry. Her clinical interests include posterior segment pathology such as glaucoma and retinal conditions. 

In her spare time, Dr. Campbell enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Kirsti K. Ramirez, OD, FAAO Optometric Glaucoma Specialist

About Dr. Ramirez

Dr. Kirsti Ramirez is a Doctor of Optometry and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development from The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated Valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude with her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry. While in optometry school, Dr. Ramirez received the Sr. Dorothy Ettling Future Female Leader award, as well as the VSP Private Practice Excellence award. She is a member of the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society and was chapter Vice-President of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Ramirez completed a primary care residency at the Rosenberg School of Optometry concentrated in ocular disease management. Following completion of her residency, Dr. Ramirez joined Sharp Eye Consultants and became an adjunct faculty member at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry and University of Houston School of Optometry. She is involved in clinical instruction of 4th year students at those institutions. At the 2018 national meeting, Dr. Ramirez was awarded Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. Professionals who become Fellows of the Academy must complete a rigorous candidacy process including submitting extensive written work and passing an oral examination. In her spare time, Dr. Ramirez enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, reading, and lounging in the river.
